Announcing the Release of VR-Engage 2.2
by Jim Kogler, VP of Products
We’re proud to introduce VR-Engage 2.2 as the newest release in the MAK ONE 2025 product family. MAK remains committed to open standards and open systems; this release is a major part of that commitment. A few highlights:
- VR-Engage 2.2 introduces an officially supported VR-Engage SDK. While previous versions allowed customization through the VR-Forces API, version 2.2 delivers dedicated documentation and examples designed to make it easy to add custom vehicles, capabilities, and roles. This version also brings support for HLA 4, the newest version of the IEEE 1516 standard released in 2025.
- Users can extend VR-Engage through the SDK in many ways, and configuration-based customization has also improved, with added control over vehicle physics including center of mass, tire geometry, slip thresholds, and braking torque.
- VR-Engage 2.2 expands our support for virtual-reality environments. VR headset users can now walk up to vehicles, embark into the driver role, and look naturally around the cabin while driving.
- Operational flexibility continues to increase. Drone operators can deploy drones from moving vehicles, vehicles such as the M777 howitzer can now be towed, and the release adds a wide range of new drone and vehicle configurations.
- VR-Engage now includes a text chat capability to help players and instructors communicate more effectively via keyboard.
- Terrain support has been enhanced with improved CDB terrain loading and CDB material classification for both SensorFX material visualization and movement-model surface textures.
- You’ll also notice improvements to PE2 (Procedural Earth 2) terrain generation, including upgraded road textures and procedural bridge generation.
Alongside these highlights are hundreds of refinements focused on improving performance, configuration workflows, and overall user experience.
