Experience a Beautiful World with VR-Vantage
— in Color or Black & White
by Steve Peart, Sr. International Channel Manager
If you’ve been following our recent blog posts, you know we’re gearing up for some exciting showcases at I/ITSEC this year! Our team is bringing a wealth of great demos to the floor, but one of the highlights I’m most excited about showing is our latest release of VR-Vantage (3.1.1).
Stop by MAK booth #1213 to see how this release combines the power of VR-Vantage’s game-like high-performance visuals with procedurally generated terrain via our Procedural Earth 2 (PE2) to deliver even more immersive, realistic, and dynamic 3D terrains. We can't wait to show you how easy it is to create geo-specific terrain filled with regionally accurate vegetation!
Additionally, this VR-Vantage release significantly enhances visual fidelity, performance, and image quality. Here’s what you’ll see in action at our booth:
- Enhanced Aerodrome Lighting for more realistic airfield & runway environments.
- Projected Tactical Graphics for improved situational awareness.
- Heading & Velocity Lines to better visualize movement and orientation.
- Map Coloring Options for a clearer representation of operational data.
- Dynamic Terrain Updates for real-time adaptability to changing scenarios.
Beyond Visuals: Advanced Sensor Simulations
For some applications, realism goes beyond visual fidelity. Thermal imaging systems, for example, need accurate simulations of how light and heat interact with the environment and atmosphere. This level of detail is essential for training simulations that involve MWIR (Mid-Wave Infrared), LWIR (Long-Wave Infrared), and NVG (Night Vision Goggles) sensor operations, enabling precise and realistic decision-making.
To that end, we’ll also demo SensorFX, a powerful plug-in for VR-Vantage that credibly simulates a wide range of sensors within the 0.2–25.0µm band. SensorFX allows you to simulate:
- FLIRs / Thermal Imagers
- Image Intensifiers / NVGs
- EO Cameras: Color CCD, LLTV, BW, SWIR, LWIR, MWIR
SensorFX also incorporates several new and updated rendering processes, including:
- Detector well capacity and quantum efficiency – Accurately represents sensor sensitivity.
- Skyglow around the sun and moon – Adds natural atmospheric lighting effects.
- Efficient modeling of artificial light sources – Realistic lighting for nighttime environments.
- Optical lens transmission effects – Models lens effects on light.
- Automatic Gain Control with Histogram Equalization – Dynamically adjusts for clear imaging.
- Support for Materially Classified Terrain Features – Uses EMAT files with osgEarth to display features like trees accurately within SensorFX.
