It's official: VR-Vantage 3.2 is here!
by Jim Kogler, VP of Products
I am very pleased to announce the release of VR-Vantage 3.2, a major feature release that delivers significant improvements to SensorFX, CDB terrain loading, and runtime performance, along with support for HLA 4 (IEEE 1516-2025), C++ 20, and many other enhancements.
Keep reading to learn more about what’s included in this release. And stay tuned for more MAK ONE 2025 product release announcements from me over the next few weeks.
VR-Vantage 3.2 Release Highlights
Enhanced CDB Terrain Support
MAK continues to advance CDB terrain performance. VR-Vantage 3.2 introduces major improvements to the CDB preprocessing tool, which now combines geometry scattered across hundreds of thousands of files into optimized blocks for much faster scene loading. As a result, large-area rendering — such as aircraft flying over detailed terrain — is significantly smoother.
Procedural Earth (PE2) Enhancements
PE2 now procedurally generates bridges from source data. Users with road and bridge shapefiles will now see bridges automatically appear in their terrain. VR-The World users will have access to most bridges worldwide. As always, imperfect source data can cause many problems. VR-Vantage 3.2 supports quick, localized adjustments using open-source GIS tools.

Procedural Buildings
Procedural building generation has been optimized to load much faster, improving performance over densely populated urban areas.
SensorFX Improvements
SensorFX can now load composite material data from CDB sources, enabling physics-based visuals that more accurately represent real-world sensor effects. SensorFX loading and caching have been streamlined, allowing thermally rich scenes to spin up more quickly.

Improved Rendering and Performance Controls
New configuration options give users finer control over LOD settings and indirect render-time budgets, improving scene smoothness and performance when loading complex models.
Support for Azure Maps
VR-Vantage 3.2 now supports the Azure Maps API, replacing the deprecated Bing Maps API. (A Microsoft key is required to use this feature.)
And more, including:
- Video streaming now supports multiple simultaneous WebSocket connections for improved flexibility and performance.
- Field-of-view (FOV) changes automatically adjust LOD scaling without also having to manually update the zoom level.
- Time-based light points are now synchronized across remote display engines.
- Improved night lighting with controllable emissive textures.
- Added hundreds of new 3D moving models
- Updated many human characters to use higher fidelity skeletons with much more realistic animations.
These are just some of the improvements the latest release of VR-Vantage brings to your project. For a full list, please reach out to us for the release notes.
