Partner integrations with MÄK Products

On a quick walk around the show floor here at ITEC 2012 in London, I was excited to see the number of partners and other product vendors demonstrating new integrations between their products and ours:

1) Antycip Simulation is demonstrating a new dynamic ocean visualization plug-in to VR-Vantage, based on their MyOcean3D technology.  This plug-in generates realistic-looking waves by using fast-fourier-transform techniques to generate a dynamic height field, encoding the height field in a texture, and passing the texture to custom shader code running on the GPU.  The shader supports vertex displacement both vertically (for crests and troughs) and horizontally (for curling and breaking wave tips).  In the demonstration, a ship simulated by VR-Forces bobs and rocks realistically on the waves.  This is accomplished through a dynamic form of“ocean clamping&rdquo, where a simple physics model is run in VR-Vantage to offset the ground-truth positions and orientations published over HLA by VR-Forces.  The MyOcean3D plug-in to VR-Vantage is already in use at one customer site, and we are interested in hearing whether you’d like to see this become part of the standard product offering.

2) Discovery Machine is demonstrating a brand new integration between their Knowledge Service Modeler AI software, and our VR-Forces CGF.  With the Knowledge Service Modeler, users can construct strategies in a graphical language that is: accessible to a wide range of users; hierarchical in nature; object-oriented; fully reflective; and easily integrated into existing systems.  In their demonstration, Discovery Machine is showing how users can quickly build complex and high-level behaviors in their editor, and immediately assign those behaviors to VR-Forces entities in an interactive simulation environment.

3) AGI is demonstrating their new product, SimMetrics, which was jointly developed with MÄK.  AGI is probably best known for their STK modeling and analysis tools.  In building SimMetrics, AGI wanted to improve the fidelity of distributed simulations by making some of the key STK capabilities available as services through the HLA or DIS protocols.  SimMetrics consists of an analysis server and associated visualization client based on MÄK’s VR-Vantage XR application. SimMetrics models sensors and GPS receivers and provides real-time navigation and sensors analysis to the simulation through DIS and HLA protocols. The generated analytics help users understand the impact of choices made in the virtual environment and help increase vehicle behavior fidelity.

4) Scalable Network Technologies are demonstrating the Network Centric Forces bundle, consisting of their Qualnet or Exata products acting as Comms Effects Servers for our VR-Forces CGF.  VR-Forces can query SNT’s products to find our whether messages such as calls-for-fire will reach their intended recipient based on their high-fidelity modeling of the battlefield communication networks, protocols, and devices.  The results of the Comms simulation affect the outcome of the battlefield scenario in VR-Forces - just as imperfect communications impact the outcome of battles in the real world.

5) MASA Group is demonstrating an integration between our VR-Forces CGF and their Sword constructive simulation.  Virtual entities such as UAVs are simulated in VR-Forces, and show up in the Sword scenario via HLA.  Sword’s aggregate models can decompose into their constituent entities, which are transferred over to VR-Forces to be simulation as individuals in areas of interest and during engagements.

6) Finally, although I didn’t make it to the Bionatics booth today, I understand that they are demonstrating their new Blueberry3D module for VR-Vantage!  Blueberry 3D adds a whole new dimension of realism to a VR-Vantage scene by procedurally generating grass, trees, rocks, dirt, natural terrain, and other visual content at run-time.  Based on propietary advanced fractal maths and procedural geometry techniques, Blueberry3D automatically generates polygons in real-time as needed from geographical raw data and high-level terrain descriptions.  Bionatics has also made significant progress on a VR-Forces SimEngine plug-in, where correlated geometry is procedurally generated in the back-end - as needed for height-of-terrain and line-of-sight queries.

I wonder what other interesting uses of MÄK products I’ll come across tomorrow...
