VT MAK is looking for a Systems Engineer in support of its Synthetic Training Environment Common Synthetic Environment program for the U.S. Army. The Common Synthetic Environment will serve as the platform enabler of the Synthetic Training Environment that will allow units and soldiers to conduct realistic, multi-echelon, collective training anywhere in the world.

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Systems Engineer and will work with the Lead Product Engineer, development engineers, customer (and its contractors), and program subcontractors to create an integrated, validated training system for the Common Synthetic Environment. The Systems Engineer must support and comply with government and company architectures and processes. He or she must also clearly communicate with conflicting stakeholders and overlapping sub-contractors. The Systems Engineer will maintain and develop JAMA and Enterprise Architecture databases containing models and requirements as well as synchronization between these tools, government tools, and program management tools (JIRA and MS project). He or she also supports the change management processes and provide reports to support weekly meetings, CCB meetings, Sprints, and reviews.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Applying technical assistance in design, development, implementation, and management of infrastructure
• Working with technical staff to understand and resolve complex infrastructure issues, where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various environments
• Leading analysts in planning infrastructure updates, testing, and validation
• Designing comprehensive documentation repository and infrastructure
• Providing leadership and training to engineers
• Evaluating infrastructure lifecycle
• Supporting solution evaluation and qualification on leading edge technology components
• Performing various engineering tests to validate product designs
• Acting as liaison between customers and vendors to gather requirements
• Ensuring production schedules are followed and solutions meet business and quality requirements
• Engaging with and maintaining vendor relationships
• Supporting and integrating requirements needs of test and development teams
• Developing and maintaining “ility” viewpoints, complete lifecycle views, and requirements, including maintainability and supportability
• Working closely with architecture teams to support elements and requirements of links and derivation process
• Working closely with MITRE requirements management team, integrating and synching with their systems as dictated by program processes
• Supporting concurrent change and development of TSS product
• Managing change from top down and bottom up
• Writing and generating change impact statements
• Holding change control board meetings and entering results in JAMA, JIRA, and reports to Enterprise Architect
• Managing data exchange and control baseline deltas from DOORS and JAMA
• Capturing design requirements, managing and reporting on linages to capabilities, functions, timelines, and development
• Creating change requests for system level requirements changes (and managing change process)
• Creating specification and other reports and maintaining, updating, and managing them through CM processes
• Tracing requirements from repository through the various stages of the DevOps environment
• Deriving or assisting in deriving and decomposing additional requirements triggered by sprint and other design preparation (and walk though required change process)
• Generating metrics on requirements, status, and completion
• Prepare weekly status reports on systems engineering efforts, synched with Jira, for IPT meetings
• Support government needs in developing STE with relevant CSE reports, schema development, etc.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum 10 years’ experience in Systems Engineering and / or test environments for DoD programs
• Strong Systems Engineering principles
• Advanced knowledge of systems architecture, framework, and standards
• Ability to conduct technology / system readiness assessment
• Experience in modeling, simulation, and training
• Understanding of Security Design Engineering
• Experience with Developmental Test and Evaluation
• Previous experience in development environments and requirements development on prototypes and military programs
• 10 years of experience in Requirements Management with formal training
• At least two years’ experience supporting program tools including Enterprise Architect and JAMA
• Previous integration experience with testing in development environments
• Strong problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
• Due to ITAR restrictions, all candidates must be a “US Person” as defined in 22 CFR § 120.15 (i.e. US citizen, US national, legal permanent resident, asylee, or refugee)

Background in one or more of the following is a plus:

• System Engineering Certifications (DoD DAWIA Certification, INCOSE)
• Formal training in Requirements Management
• Familiarity with Agile development process, JIRA, and SCRUM methodology
• Defense contractor, DOD, SAFE, or military experience
