Complementary Terrain Databases

Terrain databases that complement the simulation and visual qualities of VR-Forces, VR-Vantage, and DI-Guy

MÄK is continually increasing the quantity and quality of the content provided with our products. The following databases have been created by MÄK and third party terrain creation companies and are available for MÄK Customers to use with MÄK products. Some of the terrains come with the product installations others are available on MÄK's Supplemental Data Package, which is complimentary for customers of VR-Forces and VR-Vantage.

Hawaii

A collaboration between MÄK and Pelican Graphics, Hawaii is a beautiful example of streaming terrain cut-in sites.

Designing the terrain for a simulation environment requires a balance between fidelity and cost. The trick is to spend only as much time and money as is needed to meet the operational requirements. MÄK’s Hawaii terrain was built to demonstrate how the many terrain techniques supported by MÄK’s VR-Vantage, VR-Forces, and VR-TheWorld Server can be combined to cost-effectively build a correlated, seamless, global 3D environment - with just the right amount of fidelity in each area for the tasks at hand.

Hawaii Terrain Requirements:

  • Whole-earth elevation and background imagery to support global air traffic navigation and aggregate level simulations;
  • A fairly large area of higher-quality imagery of coastal waters to support Terminal Air Control around the Hawaiian islands;
  • A higher-fidelity representation of the entire island of Oahu, with 1ft imagery, and 100,000+ buildings and light points to support ship channel surveillance and background clutter for all missions;
  • A high-resolution model of the Honolulu airport, including geospecific buildings, trees, terminals, and runways to support tower and cockpit views during taxi, take-off, landing, and airport surveillance;
  • A second high-resolution site to support ground operations near the harbor.

Hawaii is installed with VR-Vantage and VR-Forces. The streaming terrain data is available through VR-TheWorld Server online and a portion is installed with VR-Forces and VR-Vantage for those without access to the internet.

Brooklyn

Built by MÄK's own terrain engineers and artists, Brooklyn is a composite terrain consisting of the DI-Guy Stage 12 site model that has been well-positioned within a section of Brooklyn, New York terrain data from VR-TheWorld. The area surrounding the site is streamed from VR-TheWorld Server or from a disk cache installed with VR-Forces and VR-Vantage.

Brooklyn is part of the Supplemental Data Package.

Petr’s Pond

This site was hand modeled by MÄK's own artist, Petr Kyn. It is designed to show off the beautiful rendering capabilities of VR-Vantage IG. It includes lush examples of high density vegetation using SpeedTree trees with a dynamic water surface.

Petr's Pond is part of the Supplemental Data Package.

Driving Town Day

Developed and sold by B-Design, Driving Town Day is a terrain suitable for urban driving simulators. It offers a wide selection of roads and complex intersections. Many roads are covered in speed trees with pedestrian crosswalks, sidewalks, and different parking configurations. This database may be used “as-is” inside VR-Forces simulations for non-commercial applications and for demonstration and technical evaluation only. A non-watermarked version can be purchased from B-Design.

Driving Town Day is part of the Supplemental Data Package.

Driving Town Night

Developed and sold by B-Design, Driving Town Night is the same terrain as driving town day, except emissive textures have been added to provide beautiful low light visualization. Street lights cast light on the sidewalks, and store fronts illuminate the scene.

This database may be used “as-is” inside VR-Forces simulations for non-commercial applications and for demonstration and technical evaluation only. A non-watermarked version can be purchased from B-Design.

Driving Town Night is part of the Supplemental Data Package.

Middle Eastern Village

Developed and sold by B-Design, The Middle Eastern Village terrain is a large terrain suitable for air and ground operations over a sprawling Middle Eastern village. The village is surrounded by fields and forests allowing for a wide variety of training operations.

This database may be used “as-is” inside VR-Forces simulations for non-commercial applications and for demonstration and technical evaluation only. A non-watermarked version can be purchased from B-Design.

Middle Eastern Village is part of the Supplemental Data Package.
