Terrain Database Creation

MÄK’s VR-Forces simulation and VR-Vantage visualization products are Terrain Agile. That means that you can choose the terrain approach that best suits your simulation requirements.  One of the most popular approaches is to use professional terrain generation tools from one of MÄK’s terrain partners, TerraSim or TrianGraphics, to generate a highly detailed or very large terrain database.

  • TerraTools-generated correlated GDB database in MÄK VR-Forces

  • TerraSim’s TerraTools® product supports MÄK users of both VR-Vantage XR and VR-Forces with correlated database export for both runtimes.  

The TerraTools® plug-ins for MÄK Terrain Export (GDB) and OpenSceneGraph (OSG) Export leverage the advanced functionality of TerraSim’s geospatial database construction product. MÄK users can now develop both large area and detailed geo-specific urban insets that are fully compliant with the VR-Forces and VR-Vantage runtimes. The TerraTools GDB exporter translates detailed source data attribution and geometry and creates databases that support all of the advanced CGF behaviors that are required for urban simulation. TerraTools OSG export is available in both .osg and .ive formats and is organized to support demand terrain paging for large area databases incorporating hundreds of one-degree cells.  

Other optional TerraTools plug-ins allow MÄK product users to correlate geo-specific databases to support the use of VR-Forces with serious game training runtimes including Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2), and Steel Beasts Professional. TerraTools also supports constructive simulation formats including OneSAF OTF, JCATS, JointSAF CTDB for OTBSAF and JointSAF for the widest range of virtual and constructive simulation runtimes.

TerraTools Supports MÄK B-HAVE Module  

TerraTools GDB export is particularly well suited to work with the B-HAVE AI Module for VR-Forces. TerraTools imports a full range of civil and military source vector data, DEMs, and imagery to produce a fully attributed terrain representation that supports the full range of B-HAVE Module behaviors in complex urban environments.  

TerraTools urban content generation includes the ability to automatically generate complex urban structures with interiors using TerraSim’s building interior generator. Coupled with the B-HAVE entity models, highly detailed building clearing operations can be planned and visualized. Users can construct geo-specific building interiors from graphical floorplans or detailed CAD drawings.
