Procedural Terrain – Blueberry3D Module for VR-Vantage
By Bionatics
VT MÄK’s terrain partner, Bionatics, has been perfecting the art of procedurally generated terrain for the past decade. Blueberry3D® is a procedural terrain middleware solution allowing rapid creation and visualization of vast real-time 3D databases with high level of detail. Blueberry3D bridges the gap between high resolution 3D content and realtime display performance. Bionatics is now offering a plugin module to VR-Vantage with this functionality.
Blueberry’s innovative technology is based on two core capabilities: The ability to rapidly prepare terrain source data and the ability to procedurally generate and dynamically render compelling terrains.

Blueberry3D Module for VR-Vantage
The Blueberry3D Module for VR-Vantage loads and renders the 3D database developed with the Blueberry3D Terrain Editor. Then as the observer moves throughout the terrain, the Blueberry3D module generates stunning levels of terrain and vegetation detail. Roads are dynamically cut into the terrain and features are integrated naturally.
This module takes full advantage of multi-core processors. Through parallelization and multi-threading, Blueberry3D generates more detail than could be loaded from static terrain approaches. Enjoy scenes with dense and realistic forests, animated plants, large urban areas, and open fields with ground cover detail as small as a single blueberry.

Blueberry3D Terrain Editor
The Blueberry3D Terrain Editor makes it easy to prepare source data (elevation, imagery and features) for use in the Blueberry3D plugin to VR-Vantage. The user simply maps land use types to areas of the terrain, defines types for roads, and locates buildings and other vector features.
The Terrain Editor intelligently fills in ground level detail in a realistic and fully automated way. The editor can also import static OpenFlight™ databases and use them to create new dynamic procedural databases.
